EinScan Trak a 3D scanning system with optical tracking
SHINING 3D EinScan Trak is a wireless 3D scanning system with optical tracking of the scanner's position during operation. The system supports two operating configurations: Tracking Mode, in which the Scanner and Tracker work together, and Handheld Scanner Mode, in which the handheld scanner is detached from the spherical module. Marker-free 3D scanning is available in both configurations under appropriate conditions, although markers may still be useful for certain objects. EinScan Trak is suitable for reverse engineering, digitizing large objects, industrial design, and automotive projects.
Advantages of SHINING 3D EinScan Trak
- Marker-free scanning. The Tracker detects the reflective markers on the spherical module and determines the scanner's position in real time. Within the Tracking Mode working area, there is no need to apply markers directly to the surface of most objects.
- Flexible operating configurations. The Scanner can be used together with the Tracker for large objects or independently for smaller parts and hard-to-reach areas.
- Three scanning modes. The system offers 19 + 19 crossed laser lines for large surfaces, 7 parallel laser lines for fine details, and a single laser line for deep areas.
- High scanning speed. The system captures up to 2,630,000 points per second, making it particularly useful for vehicles, body panels, and other large surfaces.
- High level of detail. Point distance can be as fine as 0.05 mm in the 7 parallel laser line mode, while the minimum object size is approximately 5 cm.
- Wireless operation. Wi-Fi 6, a local network, and battery-powered Scanner and Tracker modules enable operation without cables between the main components and the computer.
- Large tracking volume. A single Tracker position covers a working volume of up to 15 m³, while multiple positions can be used for larger objects.
- Color scanning. A 5 MP camera captures texture together with geometry, which is useful for archiving, research, and digital content creation.
EinScan Trak Optical Tracking
In Tracking Mode, the handheld Scanner is installed in a spherical module equipped with reflective markers. The Tracker detects these markers and determines the scanner's spatial position in real time, so alignment does not rely solely on the geometric features of the object's surface.
For most medium and large objects, this eliminates the need to apply markers directly to the part. This configuration is convenient for vehicle bodies, large components, sculptures, and other surfaces where applying markers is undesirable.
However, markers are not completely excluded from the workflow. For large objects requiring multiple scanning passes, the manufacturer provides Global Marker or Hybrid Leapfrog methods. In Handheld Scanner Mode, markers can also assist when scanning small objects or surfaces with few distinctive geometric features.
Three EinScan Trak Laser Scanning Modes
- 19 + 19 High-Speed Scan. Designed for fast 3D scanning of large surfaces, vehicle bodies, and oversized components.
- 7 Detailed Scan. Designed for details, contours, edges, and small features. Point distance for small objects can be as fine as 0.05 mm.
- 1 Deep Pockets Scan. Designed for recesses, narrow areas, and hard-to-reach geometry. The diameter-to-depth ratio is 1:4.
Scanning Speed and Accuracy
EinScan Trak provides a 3D scanning speed of up to 2,630,000 points/s, a resolution ranging from 0.05 to 10 mm, and volumetric accuracy of up to 0.1 mm. The system supports Wi-Fi 6 and wireless connectivity through a dedicated router included in the package. The Tracker and Scanner can operate on battery power for up to 5.5 hours and support hot-swapping of batteries during scanning.
Scanning Complex Surfaces and Color Objects
EinScan Trak is suitable for scanning black and reflective surfaces and can be used both indoors and outdoors under ambient lighting of up to 110,000 lux. The built-in 5 MP texture camera enables the creation of color 3D models, making the system useful for digitizing sculptures, historical artifacts, reliefs, as well as for archiving, restoration, AR/VR, and 3D content creation.
3D Data Processing and Measurement in EXScan Trak
EXScan Trak is the primary software used for scanning, processing, and combining data captured in different scanning modes. Finished models can be exported in STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF, and ASC formats. EXMeasure is available for measurement tasks and provides tools for dimensional analysis, GD&T, and report generation, with a one-year license included with the system. For reverse engineering, EinScan Trak is compatible with EXModel and Geomagic Design X, enabling users to convert scanned data into CAD geometry.
Applications of EinScan Trak
EinScan Trak is used in industry, design, research, and digital manufacturing for objects of various sizes and levels of complexity:
- reverse engineering of physical parts and assemblies;
- automotive tuning, customization, and digitization of body components;
- product development and industrial design;
- 3D scanning of prototypes, mechanical parts, and tooling;
- sculptures, reliefs, historical artifacts, and architectural elements;
- digital archiving and research projects;
- creation of color 3D assets for AR, VR, games, and visualization;
- education and scientific research;
- scanning vehicles, boats, and other large structures.

Practical Recommendations
- Monitor the Tracker position. The spherical module must remain within the Tracker's optical field of view so that the Scanner's position can be tracked reliably.
- Do not interpret marker-free scanning as eliminating markers entirely. For small objects, geometrically uniform surfaces, or multi-position scanning tasks, markers may provide more stable alignment.
- For objects extending beyond a single tracking area, use Transit-Station or Hybrid Leapfrog. These methods allow the Tracker to be repositioned and enable scanning of large structures.
- Check calibration and scan data before exporting. This helps identify missing areas or unstable alignment before further processing.
